What is Everyday Lifestyle?
Everyday Lifestyle is a free, no-login web reference for everyday math. Calculator mode holds 147 linear formulas (y = a·x + b) in 15 categories like electricity cost, EV, HVAC, cooking, fitness and finance. Dictionary mode converts units across 16 topics: salt, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, temperature and more.
How does it work?
Each Calculator card fixes constants so one variable stays linear (y = a·x + b), shows the LaTeX formula, a worked example and assumptions. Example: electricity kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1000. Dictionary cards convert bidirectionally, e.g. salt (g) = sodium (mg) × 2.54 ÷ 1000. Runs offline; data ships as CSV and PDF.
When should I use it?
Use it for quick, sourced everyday answers: estimate an appliance's electricity cost, calories burned from METs, BMI, salt-to-sodium intake, caffeine or alcohol per serving, oven temperatures (°C/°F/Gas Mark), cooking spoon volumes, or paper sizes. It is general reference only, not medical advice.

How many milligrams of sodium are in 1 gram of salt?
About 393 mg of sodium per 1 g of salt (NaCl), since NaCl/Na = 58.44/22.99 ≈ 2.542. Reverse: salt (g) = sodium (mg) × 2.54 ÷ 1000. The WHO general-adult upper limit is under 5 g salt per day.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Use °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. For example, 200 °C = 392 °F and 180 °C = 356 °F (Gas Mark 4). To reverse: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. Kelvin is K = °C + 273.15.
How do I estimate an appliance's electricity cost?
kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1000, then cost = kWh × unit price. Example: a 1500 W microwave for 3 minutes ≈ 0.075 kWh; at 31 JPY/kWh that is about 2.3 JPY. A 1300 W kettle uses ~1.30 kWh per hour.
How do I calculate calories burned with METs?
kcal ≈ METs × body weight (kg) × time (h) × 1.05. Example: brisk walking at 6 km/h is ~5 METs, so 5 × 60 kg × 0.5 h × 1.05 ≈ 158 kcal. Running at 10 km/h is ~10 METs.
How much pure alcohol is in a drink?
Pure alcohol (g) = volume (mL) × ABV ÷ 100 × 0.8 (alcohol density 0.8 g/mL). A 350 mL beer at 5% ABV ≈ 14 g; a 180 mL serving of sake at 15% ≈ 21.6 g. Japan counts 10 g as one standard drink.
