What is MaterialDB?

MaterialDB is a static, English-only materials database covering 27,382 entries in six categories: metals and alloys (15,602), plastics (4,758), ceramics and composites (3,051), semiconductors (3,010), chemicals and process materials (537), and woods (424). Each record lists physical properties, uses, standards, and source links.

How does it work?

It loads pre-built JSON shards into the browser, then filters and sorts records client-side. Search by name, use, or standard code (e.g. SUS304, PEEK, GaN), narrow by category and numeric property range, then add up to 10 materials to a comparison cart with a radar chart you can export as SVG, PNG, or PDF.

When should I use it?

Use MaterialDB when you need a quick property value, want to compare candidate materials side by side, or need to cross-reference a steel grade across standards. It has three tabs: Material Search, Standard Cross-Reference (JIS/AISI/DIN/ISO/UNS), and Adhesives for material-pair bonding recommendations.

What properties can I compare?

Density (g/cm3), Young's Modulus (GPa), Yield Strength (MPa), Thermal Conductivity (W/mK), glass transition temperature Tg (C), Heat Resistance (C), Band Gap (eV), and Hardness (HB/HV/Mohs/Janka). Comparable properties also feed an exportable radar chart.

Can I cross-reference steel standards?

Yes. The Standard Cross-Reference tab maps grades across JIS, AISI, DIN, ISO, and UNS. For example SUS304 = AISI 304 = DIN 1.4301 = ISO X5CrNi18-10 = UNS S30400, an 18-8 austenitic stainless steel.

Is MaterialDB free and does it need an account?

Yes, it is free and needs no account. It is a fully static web app that runs in your browser; no data is sent to a server. The interface and content are English-only.

Can I export the comparison?

Yes. You can compare up to 10 materials at once, export the radar chart as SVG, PNG, or PDF, and download comparison tables as CSV. A shareable Compare URL captures the current selection.
